After having the chance to direct my own short for LIAF, I want to pursue directing for film in the future. When I visited Blink Ink Studios, I learned that most commercial animation studios hire directors on a freelance basis. This is because of the huge range of clients that commission different products resulting in a wide variety of mediums and style, which requires different creative direction. A different method of making it to a director’s role is to apply for grants specifically for the creative arts. Organizations like Arts Council England DCYP (Developing Your Creative Practice) has different funds for individual or creative practitioners looking to make bigger projects with financial aid on the side.
